Cold shooting ends Oak Forest’s season in regional loss to Providence

Oak Forest Sports Wire | Feb 27, 2026

Oak Forest dropped a 46-18 decision to Providence Catholic in the IHSA Regionals, a girls varsity matchup that saw the Bengals battle but struggle with cold shooting.

The Bengals faced the Celtics on February 19 at Providence Catholic's home court.

Oak Forest's girls basketball team ended its season with a 28-point loss to Providence Catholic. The Bengals, competing in the South Suburban Conference, showed defensive grit with 10 steals and battled on the boards with 24 rebounds, but cold shooting proved costly. Oak Forest connected on just 13 percent of its field goals and 1 percent from three-point range, limiting its ability to capitalize on defensive stops.

The team found some success at the free-throw line, converting 64 percent, though limited trips there weren't enough to shift momentum. Providence's size and efficiency ultimately created a decisive edge, but Oak Forrest continued to fight until the final buzzer, demonstrating resilience and determination.

The Bengals closed the year with a 19-3 overall record and a 2-7 conference record, finishing fifth. Despite the setback, their season reflected growth, defensive effort, and competitive spirit against strong opponents.

Oak Forest’s season ends with a farewell to seniors Rebeca Yerkes, Brynna Hille, Kynzie Oliver, Jenna Mizyed, Maddie Martinez, and Hannah Wesner.
