As the boys' track and field season approaches, Head Coach Tony Gulli is eager to see his team build on last year’s success. A lifelong runner with more than 30 years of experience, Gulli's passion for the sport began in junior high and has remained a central part of his life.
According to Gulli, his love for track and field and desire to give back naturally led him to coaching, where he now helps young athletes develop their skills and reach their potential. After leading his team to a conference title last season, he is optimistic about what this year’s group can accomplish. While the team lost several key athletes to graduation, a strong core of returning competitors provides a solid foundation. "I’m excited to see how these athletes step up," Gulli said. "We have a great mix of returning talent and new athletes who are ready to contribute."
Several athletes are expected to make a major impact this season. Josh Hladyshewsky will compete in pole vault and sprints, while August Crnich, Jonny Roberts, and Andy Sandoval will lead the sprint events. High jumper Enoch Olukolade is another key returner, along with throwers Osato Odiase and Louie Staszak. In distance events, Nick Manso, Patrick Scurek, and Hudson Neth are expected to be strong contenders.
For Gulli, coaching is about more than just winning. He finds fulfillment in watching athletes who don’t consider track their primary sport challenge themselves and improve. "Seeing these athletes push their limits and grow is what motivates me," he said.
