The Oak Forest High School boys volleyball team is preparing for the 2025 season with high expectations, boasting a roster filled with experienced seniors. Following a strong performance last year, the Bengals aim to advance further this season.
"This past season, we had probably one of the best lineups we've had in years," said head coach Josh Balinao, who is now in his third year leading the varsity squad. "This season, I think might even be better… just based on the skill level, the commitment, and the amount of guys playing club or travel ball."
According to outside hitter Charlie Davidson, a senior looking forward to his final chance at a title, "Last season, we were pretty senior-heavy, and this year is no different. We have a real chance at winning conference." Davidson also reflected on the camaraderie built off the court: "Some of the best memories are just going out after games—hanging at restaurants with the team after big wins. It’s been a lot of fun."
Senior setter Jacob Hladyshewski echoed Davidson's optimism. "I’m looking forward to a strong season," he said. Hladyshewski expressed his desire to maintain consistency and improve defensively: "I definitely want to stay more consistent with my sets and work on my defense. I’ve been training a lot outside of practice to be ready."
Middle blocker Jaquarri Shannon emphasized speed and improvement as key factors for success. "We want to be faster, always better," he said. Shannon recounted his favorite memory: "My best memory was winning the Ridgewood Tournament. We all stayed competitive and it showed."
With a 21-13 record last season and steady progress under Balinao's leadership, the Bengals are poised to make their mark. Balinao concluded by saying, "We’re going to play our hearts out... And our record will show that."
